Tottenham star strikes 'verbal agreement' after new signing confirmed
All the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding Tottenham as they head back from Asia.
Tottenham are now headed back to the UK and then to Germany after their pre-season tour of Asia, which included a win over Arsenal in Hong Kong and a draw with Newcastle United in South Korea on Sunday.

Thomas Frank will be pleased with how his men performed against two top Premier League sides, albeit you are never going to see the best of any team at this stage in the summer. Bayern Munich are next for Frank’s men, and Spurs remain busy in the transfer window in the meantime, Here we round up all the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Son closes in on move
Tottenham are officially set to say goodbye to Heung-min Son, and the players and staff already have due to the forward staying behind in South Korea ahead of boarding a flight bound for Los Angeles.
Fabrizio Romano has posted on X: “Heung-min Son to LAFC, here we go! Verbal agreement in place between all parties. Son, ready to complete his move to MLS with Spurs due to receive fee in excess of €15m. Son didn’t travel back to UK with Spurs squad as he’s waiting for documents to be signed with LAFC.”
Palhinha made official
Tottenham wrapped up the signing of Joao Palhinha from Bayern Munich on Sunday, with the midfielder joining on loan with Spurs holding an option to buy. The former Fulham star told club media upon arrival: “I’m really, really happy. It’s such an amazing feeling that I had when I arrived here at the training ground and I’m really motivated for the next steps, so I just want to enjoy it with my team-mates, start to work with the coach and start to win matches with this club.
“It’s an amazing feeling to return to the Premier League and to return to London as well. I really loved to live here before and I’m so happy to be here again and to enjoy the Premier League because in my opinion – as I’ve always said – it’s the best league in the world. It’s what me and my family wanted at this moment and I’m really happy for this.”
Maddison injury
Tottenham star James Maddison has picked up a potentially serious knee injury after returning for the pre-season draw with Newcastle. Frank admitted after the game: “It’s most likely he has a bad injury, we need to be honest with that, it’s the same knee as the previous injury. Of course, we don't know the full assessment of it, so we need to see that.”
Maddison could now be set for an extended spell on the sidelines, and that would likely force Tottenham into the market for an attacking midfielder, a position they were already considering strengthening. The failed signing of Morgan Gibbs-White suddenly looks to be a lot more costly following this latest setback for Maddison.
