Tottenham Hotspur could be presented with the opportunity to offload Sergio Reguilón earlier than next summer. The out of favour full-back is approaching the end of his contract, which expires in June 2025, but there could be the opportunity to get his wages off the payroll even sooner.
According to Ficherio, Sevilla are looking to strengthen their options at left-back, which has been identified as the weakest part of the squad this season.

Hide AdLast summer’s signing Adriá Pedrosa is the main starter for the Spanish side this season but the report claims that this is simply because there is ‘no better option in the squad’. Valentín Barco also joined the club in August on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion to help replace Marcos Acuña, but the level of the Seagulls man and Pedrosa have been described as ‘lightyears away’ from their predecessor.
Due to the ongoing frustrations at left-back, Sevilla are now considering ending their loan deal with Brighton early and sending Barco back to England. As another replacement, they are interested in Reguilón, who has not played a single minute of football for Tottenham this season.
Clearly not part of Ange Postecoglou’s plans this season, Reguilón has slipped drastically down the pecking order and has been named as a substitute on one occasion in the Carabao Cup. The 27-year-old will be available to sign for a new club for free at the end of the season, and he can enter pre-contract negotiations in January.
However, there could be the option of Spurs ‘ridding themselves of his wages’ at an earlier opportunity. With Reguilón already having experience at Sevilla, he could ‘terminate his contract’ with Spurs and head out the door early to pursue a more regular role and allow Tottenham to move him on. The 27-year-old first signed for the North London outfit in 2020 for £32 million.

Hide AdSpurs are currently seventh in the Premier League table on 16 points, three adrift of third place. The Lilywhites have had some mixed outings so far this season but they have tallied some big results, including the 4-1 win over Aston Villa, 3-0 win over Manchester United, and statement 2-1 victory to knock Manchester City out of the Carabao Cup.
Their next league appearance will see them face relegation-threatened Ipswich Town, who are one of two teams still yet to get their first win of the season on the board. Spurs will then come up against City, who will certainly be looking for revenge after their previous defeat.
