Tottenham in 'talks' with £50m defender as former Arsenal man appointed

Tottenham are preparing to face Wolves this weekend as they turn back to the Premier League following a frustrating draw with Eintracht Frankfurt in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final. Ange Postecoglou’s men played well, but they couldn’t quite find the winner. and they now go to Germany level.

Many of the Spurs stars will already have their eyes on that second leg, but Postecoglou will need to keep his men focused as they prepare for another Premier League clash, and another one that could prove to be important for Postecoglou in his battle to keep his job. In the meantime, we have rounded up all the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding the North London club.

Huijsen talks

Tottenham are said to be interested in a move to sign AFC Bournemouth centre-back Dean Huijsen. According to The Athletic, Spurs have actually already held talks with the defender’s representatives ahead of a possible move for the Spain international in the summer. It comes amid links aplenty with Huijsen due to his superb form for Bournemouth, with a number of Spanish clubs having also been linked.

The 19-year-old could be available this summer due to a reported release clause in his contract worth £50million. That could be seen as a good fee for a player who is still so young and also a consistent performer at Premier League level.

Spurs confirm appointment

Tottenham have appointed former Arsenal chief Vinai Venkatesham as their new CEO. Daniel Levy said of the appointment: “The Club has experienced significant growth in recent years, making it crucial to expand our executive management. I have known Vinai for many years, having worked together in the Premier League and the ECA. I am personally delighted that he has agreed to join our Board as we build for success.”

Venkatesham himself added: “I’m excited to be joining Tottenham Hotspur this summer. After taking some time to recharge and evaluate my options, I believe this is an exceptional opportunity to work with Daniel, the Board and all of the staff, to take the Club forward.”

Ricci links

Tottenham are said to be interested in a deal to sign Torino midfielder Samuele Ricci. TEAMtalk report that Spurs are ‘pushing hard’ to sign the Italy midfielder, and it’s reported that Torino will demand around £34million to agree the sale.

The 23-year-old has been a consistent performer at Serie A level over recent times, and he has won eight caps for Italy at senior level along the way. Before Torino, Ricci had already racked up 83 league appearances at Empoli, so he is a very experienced player given his relatively young age. Tottenham will look to strengthen significantly this season, and midfield is one of the many areas they will need to address.

Yves Bissouma has attracted plenty of critics for his performances this season, and whether Postecoglou or anyone else is in charge, Spurs need more depth in the middle of the pitch, with Ricci potentially seen as a solution, or at least part of it.
