Tottenham star suffers season-ending injury blow with loan club

One of Tottenham’s loan players has suffered a season-ending injury that could keep him out for some time.

One of Tottenham’s out on loan stars has likely seen his season ended after a potentially serious knee injury. Spurs have had plenty of injuries of their own this season, seeing their campaigned ruined by an almost unprecedented number of injuries.

Ange Postecoglou’s men are languishing in the bottom half of the table with the Europa League their only hope of securing European football for next season. Injuries are now clearing up for Spurs, but the Premier League damage is already done, and Postecoglou will be fighting for his future between now and the end of the season.

Another team who have been disappointed with their efforts this term is Girona, who qualified for the Champions League last term. The Catalonian side were obviously punching above their weight, but they built a strong squad for this season in a bid to compete well in the Champions League.

Girona competed well, but they came up way short and have been left concentrating on their league campaign, which hasn’t been much better. Girona are in 13th place and without any real chance of qualifying for Europe next season.

To add injury to insult, loan signing Bryan Gil, who is on loan from Tottenham, has now been effectively ruled out for the season, with Cadena Ser reporting that the attacker his suffered damage to his ACL and meniscus. The details of the injury are not clear, but an ACL rupture would be an injury that would keep him out for the calendar year, while a meniscus tendon tear is probably the worst injury in any non-combat sport and would require a very long recovery time.

Though, of course, it could be damage to the meniscus itself or a tendon injury that is not a full tear, so his recovery time will become clearer when the full details emerge. Surgery will likely be required either way, although it’s added that the decision over surgery is currently being considered.

The 24-year-old may well return to Tottenham for treatment if his season is indeed over, and there will be big question marks over his future. Gil has been on three loan spells since arriving from Sevilla on a deal worth a reported £21.6 million. He has made 24 league appearances for Spurs so far.
