Tottenham 'identify' Premier League goalkeeper as Antonin Kinsky replacement

Tottenham are said to be interested in a move for a Premier League goalkeeper.

Tottenham are now said to be interested in a Premier League goalkeeper as they prepare to say goodbye - at least for now - to their number two. Spurs are in the midst of a busy month as they try to arrest a torrid run of form.

Thomas Frank is under real pressure with his side stuck in the bottom half of the table, ans the coming weeks will likely be pivotal for his future. But it’s no secret the Dane needs help from those above him, with recruitment required.

Tottenham have plenty of injury issues, with Rodrigo Bentancur, Mohammed Kudus, Richarlison and Ben Davies all out until the spring, while Dejan Kulusevski remains out for now. Attacking signings are a must this month, especially with Brennan Johnson having been sold.

But Spurs are also said to be interested in full-back Andy Robertson, and there could well be recruitment elsewhere. One position they may find themselves scrambling to cover is the goalkeeper spot.

That’s because current number two Antonin Kinsky seems to be heading to West Ham. Reports suggest Kinsky will join the Hammers on a loan deal until the end of the season, and it’s claimed there will be an option to buy that is not obligatory.

Kinsky impressed during his brief spell between the sticks last season following his January arrival, but he is not going to replace Gugliemo Vicario. The goalkeeper will have a better chance of challenging Alphonse Areola at West Ham, but he may well remain as the number two in the short and medium term.

Spurs identify replacement

According to a report from Alan Nixon on his Patreon, Spurs are looking at Wolves goalkeeper Sam Johnstone as a possible option for their number two spot. Jose Sa is the Wolves number one these days, but Johnstone has made 12 league appearances this season.

Wolves may well sell for a good price given they are effectively already preparing for life in the Championship, and sale prices are likely to dip after they are relegated.

Whether Johnstone is willing to become Tottenham’s number two and have little chance of becoming number one is another question. If the 32-year-old wants to prioritise regular football, he could stay put and have a good chance of starting in the Championship for Wolves next season.

He could also wait until the summer to see if there is a bottom half Premier League team willing to make him number one. Then again, Tottenham will offer him the best wage he is going to get at this stage of his career, so there will be a decision to make if Spurs do make a move and Wolves are receptive to offers.
