Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou reveals plans for Liverpool clash after blunders in 4-3 Man Utd win

Ange Postecoglou has spoken after Tottenham’s Carabao Cup win over Manchester United.

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou is defiant about the way his side will play despite having to learn some tough lessons during their Carabao Cup win over Manchester United on Thursday night. Spurs won 4-3, once again racing into a lead and managing to hold on to progress to the semi-finals, where they will face Liverpool.

Though, the next time they face Liverpool will be this Sunday, in the Premier League, when Tottenham will look to continue their revival and disrupt their opponents’ title bid in the process. Having conceded three against United, some Spurs fans will be concerned going up against a dangerous Reds attack and a bang in form Mo Salah.

But while Postecoglou admits there are lessons to be learned from the errors of Thursday night, he is defiant about his side’s way of winning, and especially given the mountain of injuries that are currently plaguing the North London side.

“We played so well, well in control of the game. It’s the way our season has gone a little bit, we self-inflicted some pain on ourselves and then we had to scramble to get a foothold again,” Postecoglou said after the game. “It should have been a lot more comfortable than it ended up being but having said that, I still can’t get away from the fact this group of players is doing an unbelievable job at the moment to get us through this.

“We’re in a semi-final of a cup competition, so I think that’s something to reflect this progress for us and we’ve got an opportunity now, home and away to get to a final and we’ve earned that opportunity. It’s one to look forward to, but we’ve got important games starting this week, starting Sunday (against Liverpool), that we’ve still got to get through and the mentality the boys are showing at the moment, we’re going to tackle these games in the same way we’ve tackled the ones in recent times.”

What Amorim said

United boss Ruben Amorim said after the game: “We showed that in the past games also when we were losing in difficult moments. We disconnect in the beginning of the second half, it was a tough moment for us, like 10 minutes. And then we return, I think we did a great job. I think if you look at all the game, I think we were the best team but they [Spurs] were more clinical. We lose the game but the fight from the lads was really important for me.”

He added: “We know that this team [Spurs] play with a high line. When they switch sides, they try to push us so we tried to take advantage of that. I felt a little bit a lack of physicality in those balls because we had the position and we have to work on that. Overall, it was a good match but there is no taste in that. We didn’t win, we need to focus on the next game.”
