Tottenham player ratings vs Manchester United as ‘special’ midfielder scores 9/10 and plenty 7/10s

Tottenham Hotspurs secured their first league win against Manchester United since 2020 with a commanding 2-0 win.

Young Pape Matar Sarr announced his arrival to Tottenham’s first team with a valuable goal as Spurs dominated and deservedly took all three points against Manchester United in a 2-0 win.

This was manager Ange Postecoglou’s first home league game and he made just two changes to the team that drew against Brentford last weekend, with Sarr coming in for Skipp and Pedro Porro for Emerson Royal.

But it was Sarr who got the standing ovation as he walked off the pitch to be replaced by Pierre-Emile Højbjerg. The young Senegalese midfielder had shown glimpses of his talent last season but it was today’s performance that highlights why Tottenham paid £3million to Metz for his services in 2021.

His performance justified his selection and by the time he was being replaced Tottenham were enjoying possession, leading the score line and the atmosphere at the Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium was about the best they had had since bonfire night.

Substitute Ben Davies made it two via a Lisandro Martínez deflection to seal the victory and ensured Tottenham won their first league game under the new manager. That was also their first league win over Manchester United since moving to the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Almost every player was inspirational and for the first time in a long time- the stadium was bouncing as life under the Australian manager Ange Postecoglou got off to a brilliant start.

Here is how we rated every member of the team Tottenham team out there today.
