Tottenham player ratings vs Liverpool as ‘outstanding’ star gets 9/10 and plenty 7/10s in dramatic win

Tottenham ended Liverpool’s unbeaten start to the season with only their second win in 24 games against Jurgen Klopp’s team.

Tottenham beat Liverpool for only the second time in 24 meetings with a dramatic late own goal from Reds’ defender Joel Matip to send their fans to absolute ecstasy.

Captain Son Heung-min scored the first goal for the home side before Cody Gakpo levelled for the visitor but it was Joel Matip’s own goal that ensured Ange Postecoglou’s remarkable unbeaten home record of not losing a league game in 51 games.

Curtis Jones was sent off in the first half for a dangerous tackle on Bissouma before Diogo Jota who was introduced in the second half was given his marching orders after two swift yellow cards.

Son scored after a really brilliant play that saw Maddison cut through the Liverpool defence with a brilliant pass with Richarlison playing in the South Korean for an easy tap-in.

The atmosphere at the Tottenham Stadium is improving by the game and the loudness was truly one of the best when Son finished, a goal up and a man up against Liverpool.

Klopp came into the game with a remarkable 17-game unbeaten run so they stayed in their shape, forced Tottenham wide and attacked when they could.

Cody Gakpo then levelled for Liverpool with just two minutes to end the first half and quieten the home fans who were beginning to dream already.

But Spurs got another man advantage after substitute Dioga Jota was sent off for two swift yellow cards to take Klopp’s team to a 9-men with 20 minutes to go.

Spurs looked lost but found the winner with barely a second to go when Pedro Porro’s cross was deflected into his own net by Joel Matip. The defender with his head in his hands but Tottenham won’t care as evidenced by the loudness in the stadium.

Here is how we rated the Tottenham players out there today.
