Tottenham player ratings gallery: two players score 2/10 as four land 4/10 in Newcastle United defeat

Tottenham suffer first home defeat in the Premier League despite Harry Kane’s goal in the second half vs Newcastle.

Tottenham’s spotless home form in the Premier League came tumbling down after a 2-1 defeat to a brilliant Newcastle United side on Sunday evening. Callum Wilson looped one over and into an empty net after Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris rushed out of his post, didn’t make a firm contact with the ball before clashing with Wilson- the striker got up and finished it off.

The Spurs goalkeeper was again at fault for the second goal after his long pass came short to Ryan Sessegnon, Miguel Almiron intercepted and biked into the box before finishing off confidently. Tottenham were lucky to go into the half just 2-0 down but Spurs improved in the second half with Harry Kane, heading down at the back post to reduce the deficit and give his side a lifeline almost half way in the second half.

That was the wake up goal Tottenham needed and they looked to be on their way to getting on level when Dier was unmarked late on but his header missed the post as Newcastle saw out the game.

This was Tottenham’s first defeat at home and their bright start to the campaign has since evaporated following defeats to Arsenal, Manchester United and now Newcastle. The Magpies game in particularly will feel like a mini crisis as they will look to dust themselves up before going into the game against Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League on Wednesday night, a win will seal qualification to the knock out stages of the Champions League and lift spirits.

Here is how we rated every one of the Tottenham players out there today.
