Richarlison returned to haunt Goodison with two goals but Jarrad Braithwaite's late header and a Jack Harrison strike meant both team got a point. Tottenham led for most of the game but Everton's resilience and tenacity meant they got something in the end.
Richarlison became the first ex-Evertonian to score home and away against his former side in the same season after being set up by the marauding Destiny Udogie.
The Toffees then made a fight of this with Harrison heading home an equaliser that needed an extensive VAR check before the goal was given. The hosts looked better at that point, and pushed Spurs back for large parts of the half, but as has been the case when he's on the pitch, James Maddison found the in-form Richarlison again to restore the lead five minutes to the break.
Tottenham then turned into a much calmer and more measured side for the second half, and with Everton winning just four of their last 16 league home games, they made it easier for the Lilywhites to defend and protect their lead.
Cristian Romero who would have been disappointed with his role in the first goal they conceded then headed a ball into the path of Braithwaite after some really poor set piece defending for the 21-year-old to score a late equaliser.
Spurs are looking at securing Champions League football at the minimum, so this was a game they had to win and dropping two points in the manner they did will hurt. Throughout the 90 minutes, they were vulnerable to set pieces and ended up paying for them with dropped points.
