Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has joined a growing list of managers to have instantly been impressed with Pape Matar Sarr after working with him for just a couple of weeks.

The highly-rated Senegal international showed glimpses of his talent when he played in the Champions League against AC Milan last season. Manager Antonio Conte blocked a loan move after watching him in pre-season and gave him games every now and then to continue his development in north London.

Sarr joined Spurs from Metz two seasons ago and was immediately loaned back to the Ligue 1 side for that season, he came back to north London and has been quietly working his way to the top.

Not one to always speak or question a manager's decision but equally formidable in his own way, Pape Matar Sarr was one of the standout players in the defeat to West Ham in Australia and his manager Ange Postecoglou was full of bright words for him in his press conference.

The new Tottenham boss is quoted by Football. London when asked about his plans for the young midfielder: “What a player. He never stops smiling, what else do you want from a footballer? He’s outstanding and he’s always happy. I’ve seen plenty of outstanding players who are fairly miserable.

“He’s a great talent. That part really excited me at the moment that we have a clutch with Destiny, Pappy, and Skippy.

“We’ve got a talented and very exciting group there. There’s some real growth there for us apart from establishing a team that can make an impact straight away.”

Last season he played a total of 11 Premier League games with nine being substitute appearances but there is increasing optimism that this could be his season especially with the brand of football being introduced by the new boss.
