The latest fitness updates for Ange Postecoglou’s team.

Tottenham Hotspur fell short of a big result against Chelsea on Sunday after a 2-0 lead slipped through their grasp. Despite two goals inside 11 minutes to stun their London rivals, the Blues hit back to win 4-3 thanks to two goals from open play and two penalties.

Before they can think about returning to Premier League action on Sunday, Spurs will face Rangers in their next Europa League challenge. Ange Postecoglou is battling through a significant list of injuries and illnesses as he navigates this tricky season. We’ve taken a look at the latest fitness updates ahead of Tottenham’s trip to Ibrox on Thursday.

Brennan Johnson

Brennan Johnson was brought off against Chelsea but Postecoglou has confirmed that it is not an injury concern, he just ‘didn’t feel well’ during the game.

“He didn’t feel well at half-time. He wanted to give it a go but he just wasn’t feeling 100 percent. So I had to take him off,” the boss said after the match, suggesting the 23-year-old should be good to return at the next available chance.

Potential return date: December 12th (vs Rangers)

Micky van de Ven

Micky van de Ven was handed a start against Chelsea following his latest absence due to a hamstring injury back in October. Fans were concerned he had picked up another problem after requiring treatment on his leg and being taken off but Postceoglou has assured is was ‘always the plan’ to replace him before full-time.

“He didn’t feel anything significant. He just felt tightness but we were always going to take him off anyway.”

Potential return date: December 12th (vs Rangers)

Mikey Moore

Paul O Keefe has revealed that Mikey Moore will need more time to recover from illness. Posting on X on November 27th, he said Moore needs ‘rest’ and will still be out for another 3-4 weeks.

Potential return date: Late December

Richarlison

Richarlison remains sidelined with a hamstring injury sustained against Aston Villa. Postecoglou is hopeful the Brazilian will be back in action in the new year but it seems he has been ruled out of any return in 2024.

Potential return date: January 2025

Cristian Romero

Frustrations re-emerged for Cristian Romero after he was brought off less than 15 minutes into the Chelsea clash. After returning from a toe injury, Romero is being assessed again but it is not the same problem this time, and there is no suggestion of an absence timeframe either.

“He felt something in his quad,” Postecoglou shared. “We just have to wait and see. It’s a totally different injury, it’s not like Romero re-injured his toe. It’s a totally different injury which could happen at any time.”

Potential return date: Unknown

Guglielmo Vicario

Guglielmo Vicario recently revealed that he had played for an hour against Manchester City with a broken ankle. The goalkeeper has since undergone surgery and is working on his recovery. Expected out for an extended amount of time, there has been no clear indication on when he will be back in action.

Potential return date: Unknown

Wilson Odobert

Tottenham’s summer signing has been out of action since September and a club update last month revealed he will be facing an extended period on the sidelines. After undergoing surgery on his hamstring, Wilson Odobert ‘will be monitored’ to determine when he is fit to return to training.
