Tottenham handed injury boost as player targets return for Man Utd clash

Tottenham look set to get a player back from injury sooner than hoped.

Tottenham have been handed some good news after an injury scare during the international break. Spurs have done pretty well on the injury front this season, especially when compared to last season, which was a disaster on that front.

But the international windows always bring challenges, with many players travelling long distances and playing in different time zones, some on poor pitch conditions.

The risk for injury is usually much greater, and Tottenham did get two scares during the break, with Yves Bissouma and Ben Davies both going off injured, though the latter doesn’t look to be serious.

In Bissouma’s case, the midfielder had been out since the start of the season, not yet playing for Spurs this season, but he did return in time to represent Mali in a World cup qualifier, travelling to Africa to play in a rather meaningless game, with Mali having already been eliminated at the time.

Bissouma came off the bench and almost immediately picked up an ankle injury. He was not able to leave the pitch on his own power and had to be stretchered off. The midfielder does not look to be a starter for Spurs, likely fulfilling a depth role, while he could be sold in January due to his contract expiring at the end of the season.

But as Tottenham learned last term, you never know when you are going to need depth at a given position, and Frank will want Bissouma as an option.

But the good news is that Bissouma’s injury is not as bad as first feared, according to Football.London, and he is expected to miss weeks of action rather than months, suggesting a 3-4 week recovery time. That could mean he is back for the last game before the next international break, against Manchester United on November 8.

Bissouma defends decision

Bissouma will be criticised by some given he decided to play in a meaningless game after not being available to Tottenham all season, but it is tough to fault a player for wanting to represent their country - an understandable priority.

Writing on X, Bissouma wrote: “Zero regrets. I once again thoroughly enjoyed representing my country, and if I had to do it all over again, I would do it for the love of my country. I fell, but I will know how to get back up. Every challenge is a lesson, every fall a reminder of my faith and my strength. This is not the end, just the beginning of a new chapter, stronger, more determined. See you soon...”
