Tottenham 'inform agent' of interest in 'different class' Premier League forward

Tottenham are being linked with a move for a talented young forward.

Tottenham are being linked with a Premier League star as they frantically search for new forwards. Spurs have found themselves in a mess early in the New Year, now 14th after a late defeat to AFC Bournemouth, and confronting something of an attacking crisis.

The crisis is part misfortune and part self-inflicted, with Spurs deciding to sell Brennan Johnson despite knowing Dejan Kulusevski wouldn’t be returning from his long-term injury issue for weeks yet, while Mohammed Kudus has since been ruled out for at least a couple of months.

Tottenham were planning to make a significant attacking signing in the January window, and they potentially now need two, given the departure of Johnson and the Kudus injury.

The questions now become who and how much, and in the meantime, Spurs must find a way to improve upon a rather disastrous first half of the season or so. But the search is surely making progress, and a fresh support suggests it might be.

According to TeamTalk, Wolves starlet Mateus Mane is of interest, with Spurs having reportedly scouted the 18-year-old. Mane has already racked up 10 Premier League appearances despite his youth, scoring twice and also provided an assist.

The report adds that Tottenham have informed the player’s agent that they are interested ahead of potentially approaching Wolves. Arsenal and Chelsea have also been linked with the starlet.

Mane praise

Speaking after Wolves’ draw with Everton on Wednesday night, Wolves boss Rob Edwards had special praise for Mane. He said: “It was a brilliant assist, it was a really well-worked goal.

"Dropping in, his timing was perfect, his touch, his pass was different class. But the run from Mane and the touch and finish was sensational. So I'm taking nothing away from the kid.”

Does Mane solves Tottenham’s issues?

The issue for Tottenham is that they need attacking players who will make an impact now. In the absence of Johnson and, for now, Kudus and Kulusevski, Tottenham are desperate for attackers who can make a difference, and while Mane has shown promise, he is not that player now.

Spurs already have young talent like Mathys Tel, and currently in 14th place, they need reliable talent that is going to provide goals and assists to fire Tottenham up the table. A move for Mane might make sense when planning for the future, but Wolves are going to demand significant cash for Mane, and with what Spurs currently need, that would be poor use of resources.
