Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly eyeing up a deal for an Everton defender in the January transfer window.

Tottenham have been linked with a move for Everton defender Ben Godfrey in the January transfer window, as head coach Ange Postecoglou looks to bolster Spurs' depth at the back.

This is according to a report from TalkSPORT, who also mention that Everton would be willing to move him on. His playing time in the Premier League has been limited this season, due to injury and the 25-year-old has made just two appearances for the Toffees this campaign in all competitions.

Godfrey's time at Everton overall has not been a roaring success. So far, he has made 68 appearances for the Merseyside club, but has failed to score a goal for them in the Premier League.

Should Tottenham sign Ben Godfrey?

While Spurs are in need of defensive cover, as a result of Micky Van de Ven's thigh injury that will keep him out of action until mid-January and an injury sustained by Eric Dier, bringing in another permanent signing seems rash.

Should Spurs decide to bring the ex-Norwich City man on board, they will likely need to pay a considerable fee. Everton would be willing to sell, given their financial situation, but this means they may also command a sizeable amount of money for the player. They initially signed him for £20 million back in 2020 - the likelihood is that they would command a fee around this figure. Additionally, he is under contract until the summer of 2025.

However, Spurs boss Postecoglou has hinted at some transfer business next month as he recently said: “If you're going to build a team that's going to win things, I've always found your best players want more good players in the building. They're not comfortable, they don't want to be comfortable. They don't want to just be sitting there saying, ‘Well, I'm the man’."
