Tottenham have beaten off competition from Fulham to verbally agree to a deal to sign Israeli winger Manor Solomon from Shakhtar Donetsk.

The 23-year-old was a target for Fulham where he spent last season on loan, and Israel international impressed during his loan despite a serious knee injury delaying his debut until January.

He was set to return to parent club Shakhtar Donetsk this summer, however, FIFA in May extended its temporary employment rules relating to the war in Ukraine, which will allow Solomon to cancel his deal with Shakhtar and sign for Spurs.

Tottenham are hoping they can wrap up the deal making him likely to face his former side in a friendly on August 6. Spurs are looking to rebuild their squad that will suit the attacking-possession-based football that new manager Ange Postecoglou normally prefers.

Last season, the Lilywhites finished a disappointing eighth in the Premier League, the first time since 2010 that they will not be involved in any kind of European football and seeing manager Antonio Conte question the mentality of the team.

They had been linked with hiring former manager Mauricio Pochettino, but decided that a fresh start was the way to go with the hiring of treble-winning manager Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou.

Manor Solomon will become the third signing for Spurs this summer having already bagged goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and Leicester City’s James Maddison.

They will also hope that they can convince striker Harry Kane to snub interest from Bayern Munich and Manchester United to stay at the club.
