With the conclusion of the Ballon d’Or ceremonies, which saw Lionel Messi named the world’s best for a record breaking seventh time, a major talking point was Harry Kane’s ranking.

The Tottenham and England striker enjoyed a fruitful 2021, yet was named below the likes of Lautaro Martinez, Riyad Mahrez and Leonardo Bonnucci, despite having better seasons.

Not many are disputing the Argentine forward winning his seventh Ballon d’Or, but for Kane to not even finish in the top 20 is shocking.

Yes, the forward didn’t and won’t win a single trophy in 2021, but the trophy is given out based on individual performances, so, that again begs the question why did Harry Kane finish so low?

The Premier League striker finished top in both assists and goals last season, a feat that has never been achieved in the top flight of English football before.

As well as that, Kane scored four goals at Euros, including goals against Germany and the winner in the semi-final against Denmark.

In the Ballon d’Or, he was placed 23rd.
