Spurs 'reach agreement' on new long term contract with star player

Destiny Udogie has been a breath of fresh air at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season - and recent reports suggest that he is ready to sign a new long-term deal at the club that will see him become part of the squad's backbone.

This is according to journalist Fabrizio Romano on X - he says that a new contract for the young Italian is 'all done'. Spurs are understood to be 'very happy' with Udogie's decision to commit his future to the club. Additionally, he will also be the beneficiary of a pay rise as a result of him signing a new deal with the club.

In Romano's tweet, he wrote: "Tottenham reach an agreement with Destiny Udogie on new long term deal for Italian fullback. Club sources confirm deal in place and sealed - understand it’s all done. Spurs very happy with Udogie - salary rise agreed. Destiny scored first #THFC goal yesterday."

How important is Destiny Udogie to the Tottenham squad?

Since he arrived in North London, Udogie has swiftly established himself as one of the best full-backs in the Premier League. He has played in all but two of their Premier League games this season - he was dropped for those two games because he was unavailable for selection.

He can be rash at times with his tackling, as evidenced by the red card he collected against Chelsea. Nevertheless, he is generally an effective defender - mainly thanks to his pace and physical attributes.

On top of this, he also provides a strong attacking presence down the flank and in the opposition's box. He has already registered two assists in the Premier League for the Lilywhites - last time out, against Newcastle United, he also scored his first goal for them. He is the ideal modern fullback - there is no surprise that Tottenham are so keen to keep him.
