Spurs could land £30m transfer budget windfall as intriguing 'bid' emerges for 2021 signing

A team in Saudi Arabia are interested in signing a Tottenham Hotspur defender - will Spurs let him leave the club in the January transfer window?

A Tottenham Hotspur player could be on the move in the January transfer window. Emerson Royal is the subject of interest from Saudi Pro League outfit Al Nassr and they could submit a bid for the player in the coming days.

This is according to a report from Premier League Brasil - they claim that a bid of around £21 million has already been submitted for the player by Al Nassr, but this was rejected. Spurs are said to be unwilling to sell the player mid-season, but with the Saudi outfit looking to ramp up their efforts to bring the Brazilian on board, their heads could be turned.

Al Nassr could make a second bid for the player later in the month - this time, they will reportedly offer the Lilywhites a sum of £30 million. It is unknown how Spurs will react to this bid - they signed the player for a reported fee of £25.8 million back the summer of 2021.

Can Tottenham allow Emerson Royal to leave the club in January?

While Emerson Royal is still considered a useful player at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, his playing time this season has been limited due to the arrival of Pedro Porro. The Spaniard is enjoying a wonderful campaign, displaying defensive solidity and a propensity to get forward down the right flank.

While Emerson Royal is an adequate defender, his attacking output arguably leaves much to be desired - especially in an Ange Postecoglou team, who prefers players brimming with attacking talent. This aside, should he be allowed to leave in January, it would leave Spurs with only one senior team right back.

Moreover, he has also been able to provide cover at centre-back when needed - Tottenham have struggled with injuries across their back line this season. Therefore, letting one of their defenders leave - especially one who can cover multiple positions - seems to present an unnecessary risk.
