Harry Kane produced his best performance of the season to help Tottenham to a 3-2 win against Manchester City at the Etihad.

The defeat was the first for Pep Guardiola’s men in the league since October 2021 and completes a league double over their much fancied opponents on the day.

Kane, who City tried to sign in the summer, overpowered the City defence to head on the winner on the 95th minute from Dejan Kulusevski’s cross.

It was by far the most dramatic and entertaining match of the weekend, that saw Tottenham pegged back twice before Kane eventually sealed all three points on the day.

Dejan Kulusevski opened the scoring for the Lilly Whites but German midfielder İlkay Gündoğan responded for the champions.

Kane then scored his first of the day after being set up by partner in crime Son Heung-min, only for City to respond again through a penalty from Riyad Mharez.

Tottenham would not be denied again when England Captain powered home the winner just seconds after Manchester City thought they had rescued a point.

Kane’s first goal was a record-breaking one, as his combination with Son Heung-min levelled the record set by Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard for the most prolific partnership in the history of the Premier league.

Kane spent most of the summer hoping to move to the Etihad, where he could benefit from the services of Kevin De Bruyne, but South Korean Son Heung-min hopes he stays and gets more assists from him.

Son said after the game to Sky Sports: “Sometimes I was really sad at the start of the season when he wasn’t scoring and people were talking and I was quite sad because he was working for the team.

“You could see today again and he was working for the team and he is just unbelievable.

“Unbelievable player, as well but I mean unbelievable guy too, and just being alongside him and working with him is a big honour.

“We have been waiting to make this record for a while and I mean this record is historical and I didn’t do much. I just crossed the ball and mostly he would finish it.

“We are glad to have this record and I hope many more to come as well.”

With the win breathing life into Tottenham’s season, attention will now turn to must-win games against Burnley and Leeds United.
