The 3 players likely to leave Tottenham this summer - and 3 who probably won't

A look at the players most likely to leave Tottenham this summer.

Tottenham’s season is now over, and while it has been a disastrous Premier League campaign, they can look forward to Champions League football next season thanks to their Europa League glory.

Spurs have a big decision to make over Ange Postecoglou, but they also have some decisions to make over playing personnel, with some players likely to leave. Here we round up those players and the players more likely to stay.

Players who will likely leave

Rodrigo Bentancur

Bentancur is out of contract in 2026, and you wonder how Tottenham are going to convince him to pen a new deal given how far Spurs look from competing for domestic silverware. The Europa League looks like a positive in terms of winning silverware, and it is, but if you look at it from Bentancur’s perspective, the midfielder may see it as the most he is going to win the club, perhaps making it less likely that he stays.

If Spurs can’t agree a new deal, they will likely sell this summer to avoid losing the midfielder for free. Bentancur would otherwise be able to agree a free move from January for next summer with clubs abroad, and that’s where his market is strongest.

Richarlison

Transfer rumours surrounding Richarlison won’t go away. His injury history means a move might be a little less likely, but with the forward worth a fair amount and with another striker signing likely, Spurs may well cash in this summer. The Brazilian is under contract until 2027, so Spurs can hold out for a strong fee. Saudi Arabia has been tipped as a possible destination.

Cristian Romero

Romero has been critical of Tottenham’s direction at board level, and while he later apologised for those comments, and he has since spoken of his love for the club, it seems the time may have come for the centre-back to move on.

Atletico Madrid have been heavily linked, as have Real Madrid, and Romero has admitted he wants to play in La Liga at some point. Many Spurs fans believe they haven’t seen the best of Romero in a Tottenham shirt, and if the club receive a big offer, it seems unlikely they will reject it.

Players who probably won’t leave

Kevin Danso

Danso is a strange one because he arrived at Spurs on a loan deal with an obligation to buy worth £20.5million, but there is always an exit fee involved in these deals, and Spurs have been tipped to get out of the deal by some. Danso has struggled with injuries during his loan spell, but he has provided some strong performances here and there, including his Europa League final cameo. Spurs must have believed in the centre-back to sign him, and as long as they are confident his injury issues are not long-term, a stay is likely.

Tottenham have a decision to make over Bissouma, who has attracted plenty of criticism this summer. The midfielder is out of contract in 2026, and Spurs will have to decide whether to give him a new deal. A short-term extension seems likely for the 28-year-old, with Tottenham not likely to get anywhere near the £35million they paid for Bissouma on the back of this season. It’s the wrong time to sell.

Micky van de Ven

Van de Ven is under a long-term contract but he has been linked with a move away from the club, with Real Madrid and others reportedly interested. Van de Ven has struggled with injury issues this season, but Spurs are likely to want to build their defence around him, especially with Romero more likely to leave. The pacey centre-back will likely have the opportunity to join a top club in the not too distant future, but his injury issues make him unlikely to move at this stage, with clubs likely wanting to see a full season of production first.
