Ange Postecoglou insisted his players did not have one mind on Thursday’s Europa League clash with Eintracth Frankfurt as they slumped to a 4-2 defeat at Wolverhampton Wanderers. It was Tottenham Hotspur’s 17th loss in 32 Premier League games this season and a result that leave them just two points above West Ham United in 17th.
Ipswich Town sit 18th with 21 points the Tractor Boys do not look like they are going to mount a remarkable fightback to survive in the Premier League. Spurs travel to Germany on Thursday as they take on Frankfurt in the second leg of their Europa League quarter final. They are locked at 1-1 after the first leg.
Speaking after his side were beaten at Wolves Postecoglou said: “When you look at those things in isolation, they are unusual for us and for those players in those moments. It happens. It might happen once in a game or a season, and for us it happened multiple times in a game. I don't think it's any lack of focus from the players and from my perspective, I don't think that's a major concern.
“They shouldn't be in a bad headspace. The game Thursday is massive for us. I thought we played well on Thursday night against them and probably should have got a win out of that game. We know that when we play our football like we did on Thursday night, we can certainly make an impact. So, we just recover today, physically, mentally, make sure that the players are in a good space. We rested a few today which I think will help us come Thursday as well."
The defeat has piled the pressure on Postecoglou’s position at Spurs and it appears his future hinges on the club’s progress in the Europa League. As the majority of fans call for change, here’s who the latest contenders are to replace the Austrailian - according to the bookmakers...
