Middlesbrough have made a contract proposal to Tottenham to sign striker who was bought for £2m

The summer transfer window is now days away from being officially opened, and talks are ongoing behind the scenes.

Championship side Middlesbrough are holding talks with Tottenham to sign 19-year-old striker Will Lankshear, who was signed from Sheffield United for £2 million. Boro have already made a contract proposal, even though they face stiff competition from other Championship sides for the 19-year-old, according to Football League World.

Lankshear was rewarded with a new contract last summer, so he’s tied to Spurs until 2026. Despite his enormous talent, he’s likely to find game time under Ange Postecoglou limited, with the north London club hoping to fight for the league title and excel in the Europa League.

There is also competition for him from clubs in Europe, with an outright sale not ruled out. LondonWorld has been briefed that Boro manager Michael Carrick is keen on the youngster as he aims to build a team that can push for Premier League promotion next season.

Game time will be a deciding factor for where he returns, as despite being one of the top performers for Tottenham’s development side, he’s yet to make his first-team debut.

Tottenham's summer plans

Spurs are looking to do business early for their first team, having taken two significant steps in shaping the team. First, they quickly announced Timo Werner, who arrived from RB Leipzig, would be staying at the club for another season on loan.

Smart business, given he knows the league and scored twice in the 13 games he played since joining in January. They have also confirmed the departure of four players, including Eric Dier, Ivan Perisic, Ryan Sessegnon, and Japhet Tanganga.

They are also in the market to try and replace Harry Kane, who left the club last summer without being properly replaced. Last season, they finished fifth in the league, with manager Postecoglou determined to rebuild the club's foundations after describing them as ‘fragile’.
