Club's manager confirms Tottenham transfer is almost done after Thomas Frank admission

Thomas Frank is desperate for new signings at Tottenham amid a poor run of form.

Tottenham are said to be closing in on a deal to sign a new defender as the wait goes on for Thomas Frank’s squad to be bolstered. Spurs fell to another defeat on Saturday evening when they lost to Aston Villa in the FA Cup third round.

Frank has come under real pressure amid a very poor run of form, but he is not helped by the fact we are now almost two weeks into the January transfer window and Spurs still haven’t made any new signings. The North London club have sold Brennan Johnson, and that has only weakened the front line, with Mohammed Kudus injures, Dejan Kuluisevski showing no sign of returning and with Richarlison now looking like he has picked up an issue.

Attacking signings are a must, and Frank admitted himself after the Villa defeat that transfer are now a big priority for the club. He said: “I think we definitely need to do everything we can to play two good halves, which I think every team wants to do. Every team wants to be consistent in that aspect. In terms of transfer market, as I said many times, we are out there working very hard, trying to improve the squad."

In the meantime, it seems Tottenham are working hard to sign a young player in Souza, who is a 19-year-old Santos defender. There have been reports all week claiming that Spurs are working on a £13million deal, and it now seems as though the deal is close.

Santos boss Juan Pablo Vojvoda told UOL on Saturday:“I don’t know if it’s completely settled. There are several factors. Souza has grown a lot in recent months. He’s experienced some tough moments and responded well. There’s a context, family, club, the player’s future.

“We have to respect that, listen to all sides and see what’s best. What’s best for Santos, and without forgetting that he’s a player who was born here. I don’t know if it’s finalised, but it’s on track for him to become another Santos player in the world of football.”

The deal will likely be a signing for the future as far as Tottenham are concerned. With Souza already having first team experience, it’s unclear whether he will link up with the club’s first team or initially spend time with the under-21s. Either way, Frank will be wanting more senior signings and quickly.
