Joe Rodon was the only outfield player to start 42 league games in the Championship last season.

Paul Robinson has urged Leeds United to go all out for Joe Rodon who was a pillar in defence for Daniel Farke’s side in the Championship. The Wales international featured 43 times in the Championship, including 42 starts, as the team narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League

His loan deal to Yorkshire does not include a clause to buy but that has not quietened rumours that he could return to the Championship side while newly promoted Southampton are also reported to be looking at him.

But Robinson says to build on the success of last season, which saw Leeds come mighty close to a return to the top league, securing Rodon should be the target of the summer.

He told MOTLEEDSNEWS: “I think they need to get him on a permanent – he’s been outstanding this season with Ethan Ampadu at centre-half.

“If Liam Cooper moves on, it’s an area they’ll need to recruit in any way, but it’s whether they can actually get a deal done.

“He’s had that good a season that I think there’ll be a number of suitors for him. We know he’s not going to be integrated back into the Tottenham squad; Ange Postecoglou is moving his team forward, so there’s an opportunity to buy the player.

“I suspect Leeds won’t be the only team at the table because of the season he’s had. He’s played really well so I suspect some Premier League teams will be looking at him.

“It’ll come down to his personal preference, in a similar way to Ben White. Leeds tried their hardest to sign him. Now look at what he’s gone on to achieve at Arsenal

“I think, with Rodon, in a similar way they’ve got it all on to make the deal permanent, and I think they should.”

Tottenham looking to cash in

Spurs signed Rodon in 2020 for £11million from Swansea when Jose Mourinho was the manager but, he’s just not been able to lock down a regular spot in north London. Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou has vowed to rebuild the foundations of the club with four high-profile names leaving the club already this summer.

There is every chance that they’ll listen to offers for Rodon who excelled at Swansea before securing his big move to Tottenham.
