Leeds United now want to sign Tottenham star who Jose Mourinho said will be the 'future captain' of the club

Leeds United are keen on signing Tottenham midfielder Oliver Skipp this summer as they look to strengthen their team for another Championship promotion push. Daniel Farke knows Skipp from their time together at Norwich, where they combined to lead Norwich back to the Premier League.

Skipp is looking for consistent game time, and a move to the Championship, where he will be reunited with Farke and also Joe Rodon, who has just left Spurs permanently to join the Yorkshire club.

FootballLeagueWorld is reporting that Leeds are interested in the 23-year-old and will look to use their good relationship with Spurs, which has been evidenced by how smoothly they secured a deal for Archie Gray with little to no difficulty.

Last season, Leeds missed Premier League promotion by the skin of their teeth, and there is no doubt they will be part of the teams challenging for automatic promotion next season.

As for Skipp, he has always been highly rated at Spurs, so much so that former manager Jose Mourinho admitted he had everything it took to be the club’s captain.

Mourinho said after Skipp signed a new two-year deal at the club: "He's one of these players, by human quality, by personality, he is one of these kids that I have no doubt he will be an important player for Tottenham. I think he can be more than a player; he can be a future captain here. Hugo [Lloris], Harry [Kane]. I see this kid being one day a future captain here by his character, by his personality. I feel really happy that he signed."

"Now we almost take it for granted; he plays without mistakes and he is solid, but I am full of praise for him," Norwich boss Daniel Farke said earlier this year. "With his character and how he behaves within the group, it underlines why Jose said he could be a future Tottenham captain. He has this pedigree."

Last season, Skipp played 24 times in the league, but only five of them were starts. The arrival of Gray from Leeds, a player who can play in midfield and also as a fullback, means Skipp will now fall further down the pecking order with Yves Bissouma, Pape Sarr, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Pierre-Emile Højbjerg amongst the players fighting for a spot in the middle.
