Jurgen Klopp stunned the football world on Friday when he announced he will be leaving his role as Liverpool manager at the end of the season.

The 56-year-old delivered an emotional interview with the club and stressed he owes fans 'the truth'. Klopp admitted he is 'running out of energy' and knows he 'cannot do the job again and again'. He informed the board of his intention to stand down in November last year.

"When we sat there together talking about potential signings, the next summer camp and can we go wherever, the thought came up: 'I am not sure I am here then anymore'. And I was surprised myself by that. I obviously start thinking about it."

Klopp joined the Reds in 2015 and has guided them to six trophies during his time in charge, including the Premier League title and their sixth Champions League trophy. His announcement has rippled through fans and professionals alike, who have been left utterly shocked.

The social media posts of surprise have flooded platforms and Klopp's time at Anfield is already being looked back on and celebrated by thousands. "Wow. Huge news. What an incredible job he's done," Gary Lineker posted on Twitter.

TalkSPORT's Laura Woods wrote: "Wowwww. I don’t even support Liverpool and I’m upset!." Liverpool legend and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher also weighed in on the news and described it as a 'body blow' to those involved with Liverpool: "This news was always going to be a body blow to the club whenever it came. I just thought it would be another few years away. What a manager, what a man, let’s go out with a bang Jurgen!"

Liverpool are currently leading this season's Premier League title race with 48 points — five ahead of Arsenal and eight above Tottenham Hotspur. Manchester City are five points behind but hold an important game in-hand. The Reds will look to kickstart Klopp's final hurrah when they take on Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final next month.
