Tottenham have jumped ahead of Newcastle United in the race to sign James Maddison from relegated Leicester City this summer.

The Lilywhites have always admired the English midfielder who wants to stay in the Premier League after the Foxes were relegated, so he can push for a place in the Three Lions squad for Euro 2024.

According to LondonWorld sources, new Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou has given his blessing for the board to go after the midfielder who is as talented as any when he’s fit and well-motivated.

Leicester who are looking for a straight route back to the Premier League after suffering relegation will likely ask for a fee of around £50 million for him with Newcastle United also interested in the midfielder.

The Magpies will compete in this year’s Champions League and that could be an interesting competition for Maddison even though the pull of playing in London and in a team that is set for a new style of play under the highly respected Ange Postecoglou could be interesting too.

Maddison was a member of England’s World Cup team even though his impact on the field was limited due to a knee injury, he bagged 10 goals and nine assists as Leicester went down despite winning their last game of the campaign against West Ham.

Tottenham also have the contract situation of striker Harry Kane who has been targeted by Real Madrid as the man to replace Karim Benzema.

Chairman Daniel Levy has insisted his striker is not for sale even though his resolve will be tested when a reported £0 million bid is made.
