International legend apologises for comments slating Tottenham signing

A pundit has apologised for comments he made regarding a newly-signed Tottenham Hotspur player.

Back in December, Romanian legend Florin Raducioiu made some disparaging comments regarding Tottenham Hotspur defender Radu Dragusin - calling the 22-year-old 'limited' and drawing ire at his transfer fee.

Recently, however, Raducioiu has apologised for his outburst, suggesting that he may have been 'a bit harsh' and that he meant 'nothing personal' by his remarks. However, he still said that Dragusin should not be regarded as the 'best player in Romania' and that he does not 'convey emotion' in the way that he would like.

Since joining Spurs in January, Dragusin has made five Premier League appearances in total - he has yet to score a goal or register and assist, however.

What did Florin Raducioiu say about Radu Dragusin?

Speaking to Orange Sport, Raducioiu said: "It was not a personal thing. It was just my reaction, maybe a bit harsh, I admit, with that word ‘shepherd’. I think I made a mistake there, I apologise, and actually I did it a few months ago.

"I understand that this Tottenham transfer took off, but nothing justified it and no one should reward him as the best player in Romania. I believe that Romania’s best player must be a show player, a player who conveys emotion to me, which Drăguşin did not do. That was it, nothing personal."

Previously, Raducioiu had said this about Dragusin [via Digisport]: "With all due respect to him, he is a very limited player from a technical point of view. Is shepherding rewarded? I have absolutely nothing against him, he is very young, at the beginning of his career, but he gives two passes, right and left, and two shoulder shots!

"It seems to me that we have lost the essence of football in Romania, we reward a football player with a very rudimentary playing style from a technical point of view."
