Harry Kane’s Tottenham Hotspur future continues to remain a key talking point

Harry Kane ‘will not’ sign a new contract with Tottenham Hotspur amid interest from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

The England international has just 12 months to run on his Spurs deal and has been linked with a move away from the North London club this summer.

He was being eyed by Manchester United early in the window but Daniel Levy made it clear he would not sell the club’s prize asset to a direct rival.

It has paved the way for Munich to become the frontrunners to sign the striker who signed a six-year contract in 2018, with that deal entering its final season.

The Times reports Kane has ‘refused’ to sign a new deal at Spurs and is open to a move to Bayern if the clubs can come to an agreement over a fee.

Reports earlier this week claimed Bayern had a second bid worth around £70m rejected for the player, but the German outfit are poised to return with another offer.

ESPN adds that Kane won’t force a move away from the club and will only leave if the clubs come to an agreement, as Spurs risk losing him for nothing in 12 months time. The report also claims the player could still be open to signing a new deal during the next campaign if he stays this summer and the club enjoys success under new manager Ange Postecoglou.

Speaking at a Q&A during Spurs’ pre-season tour of Australia, Postecoglou revealed his hopes that Kane would stay with Tottenham.

“I certainly hope so,” he responded, when asked if Kane would be leading the line next term. “It’s one of those things where, when you’re in this role, I’ve learned that you’ve got to deal with the certainties that are before you.

“If you start thinking about what happens if that happens and that happens, there are too many things that can be floating in the air at any time, where you lose focus on what’s the most important thing.

“The most important thing for me right now is to build a team that is going to be successful in the Premier League. If I wait to see what an outcome is before I start that process I’m going to lose valuable time.”
