Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen is reportedly set to become a free agent in the summer as his contract will expire in June and Manchester United haven’t yet shown any indication of wanting to renew his deal. Eriksen, 32 has been at United since July 2022 when he signed from Brentford on a free transfer. He has since made 85 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring seven goals and 16 assists.
Football journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported that no negotiations are taking place despite the club bringing in new manager Ruben Amorim. He said on X: “Manchester United and Christian Eriksen are still expected to part ways at the end of the season. No negotiations taking place over new deal, while Rúben Amorim’s opinion will also be considered — but Eriksen’s expected to leave.”

Eriksen is expected to become a free agent in June and so the Danish international will be available to sign in the summer and could make a return to Spurs where he experienced the best success of his career.
The midfielder joined Tottenham in August 2013 from Ajax for £12m and spent seven years in North London making over 300 appearances scoring 69 goals and 88 assists. He then moved to Inter Milan and later Brentford after suffering a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020 whilst on the pitch. Following his impressive return at Brentford, Erik Ten Hag decided to bring Eriksen in at Old Trafford, however, he will be available for Premier League clubs to sign at the end of this season as the reports suggest that United won’t extend his contract.
Could Christian Eriksen return to Spurs?
It seems unlikely that the Danish international would return to play for Tottenham due to his increasing age. However, if he was to return, he would likely play in a depth role in midfield similar to what he does at Old Trafford. He was tipped to move to Spurs after his short spell at Brentford.
The 32-year-old could be a useful asset to have on Ange Postecoglou’s bench as he has vast experience both in English football and European competitions. His performances for United show that he still has plenty to give, so Spurs could give him a chance.

He made just 11 appearances, but after returning from his health scare, showed the Premier League that he was back to full fitness and performance levels, hence why Man United came calling shortly after.
