Ange Postecoglou's stance on the absence of £190k-a-week Tottenham star ahead of Everton game

Tottenham captain Son Hueng-min is aiming to help South Korea win their first Asian Cup since 1960.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou says he's happy for club captain Son Hueng-min to miss the next couple of games if that helps him achieve the dream of winning the Asian Cup with his country.

The Spurs star who is on £190k-a-week wages scored a brilliant free kick to help South Korea beat Postecoglou's Australia and reach the semi-final of the Asian Cup. They will face Jordan in Tuesday's semi-final for a ticket to the final.

Son hasn't played for Tottenham in 2024 due to his commitment to his country and they haven't won the Asian Cup since 1960. Asked if he preferred to have his captain with him ahead of the visit to Goodison this afternoon, Postecoglou said: "It's kind of a win-win for me. Obviously being Australian I'd love for them to get through then we'd get Sonny back, but part of me would love Sonny to win an Asian Cup.

"I know what it'd mean to him and his country. They put great stock in that competition and Sonny, for everything he's done for the game and his nation, as disappointed as I would be if Australia go out, I'd love Sonny to go all the way and don't mind if he missed a couple more games for us"

Richarlison stepping up nicely

Son's absence has opened a window of opportunity for Richarlison who could become the first former Everton player to score home and away against the Toffees in the same Premier League campaign.

The Brazilian has found form and is leading the fight to keep the Lilywhites in the hunt for a top-four finish. He's scored seven goals in as many Premier League appearances so far, having only managed two in his first 39 matches when he arrived in north London.
