David Ornstein makes fresh Ange Postecoglou future claim after Europa League final win
Tottenham have a huge decision to make over Ange Postecoglou after Wednesday night’s Europa League success.
Tottenham have a big decision to make over Ange Postecoglou after their Europa League title win on Wednesday night. Spurs defeated Manchester United in Bilbao thanks to Brennan Johnson’s first-half goal, and some fine defending meant the Lilywhites landed their first trophy in 17 years.

The win also means Tottenham have secured qualification to next season’s Champions League, allowing them to meet their biggest pre-season objective despite a disastrous Premier League campaign.
The Tottenham board now have a huge decision to make over their manager, with Postecoglou’s job in the air given the disappointments of the league campaign. Speaking after the game, the Spurs boss, who has a clear preference to stay, said: “I understand why it would be difficult for a club like this to buy into one person's vision. I remember even when I signed, the club and even Daniel (Levy) said, 'we went after winners, it didn't work and now we've got Ange.' But mate, I'm a winner. I have been a serial winner my whole career. It's what I have done more than anything else.
"Obviously the way things have gone in the league, people are right to be concerned about, but I don't think that's a true reflection of where we are at. We've got a really young group of players and you can talk to them about success and what it means, but until they feel it, it doesn't become real. I've got no doubt that all those boys - having this feeling - will want it again. To get it again they're going to have to make similar sacrifices.
"They've climbed the mountain now. They know what it takes to get to where we are. I think that does, it accelerates the opportunities to build a team who can be successful and play at a high standard for years to come. As I said yesterday, I still feel there's a lot of work to be done, I think that's quite obvious, but not as much work as people may think. People can bang on about 20 league defeats and where we are, but they're missing the point of what we're trying to build, or what I'm trying to do anyway. I really feel that this can be a great platform for us to kick on."
Fresh Postecoglou future claim
While speaking on Sky Sports’ Paper Talk show, The Athletic’s David Ornstein suggested that Postecoglou is still likely to be sacked ahead of next season. He said: “He's a proud man and a very good football manager, and the level of ridicule that he has been exposed to is quite frankly a disgrace. he has had his duels with us in the media and, fair play, there has been a bit of give and take. there have been mistakes and he has not done everything perfectly by any means, just look at te Premier League table, but he is entitled to feel that way about what he would like going forward.
“However, the clear direction of travel as far as the Tottenham hierarchy are concerned goes is to make a change this summer, and it will be fascinating to see if they follow through with that. I think it is most likely they will from an outside perspective, but they have a bit more food for thought now.
“I think if they look at the evidence, and that isn't just results but performances and injuries, then there is enormous room or improvement. They feel there is a strong squad there. They have invested heavily and it needs more work, they need good fortune with injuries, but it wouldn't surprise me if there was still a change there.
“And I don't think it would surprise Ange Postecoglou given some of his comments that have hinted towards a change coming. He seems to be at peace with that. Whatever happens now, his legacy is preserved as a history-maker for Tottenham, but there are important conversations that need to take place, and it would be an about turn if they were to stick with him because the feeling was that they would make a change this summer.”
