Hide AdRodon will move to Elland Road for £10m, having spent last campaign on loan at the Championship club. Transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the double deal, writing on X on Tuesday morning: “Joe Rodon has signed his contract as new Leeds United player, same for Archie Gray at Tottenham. Formal steps to follow as Rodon joins Leeds for £10m and Archie Gray will be new Spurs gem for £40m.”
Gray made 52 appearances for Leeds last season as he established himself within Daniel Farke’s starting XI. He played at right-back and in central midfield, as Leeds finished third in the Championship with 90 points before losing the play-off final 1-0 to Southampton. Rodon was just as vital to Leeds’ last term, as he played 50 times across all competitions and 46 times in the Championship - which included three appearances in the play-offs. Speaking about his future earlier this year, Rodon admitted he wanted some stability in his career. He made his professional debut with Swansea City before being signed by Tottenham in 2020. However, he has not established himself in the first-team squad and has had loan spells at Rennes and Leeds.
He an interview earlier this year, Rodon said: “It would be nice to have stability and know where I am next season. I’ve always strived to get to the elite level and hopefully I can get back there with Leeds, but you never know. I don’t want to look too far into the future, although I do love it here and Leeds feels like a second home to me now. I’m just concentrating on giving my best and getting this club back to where it belongs.”
Leeds boss Daniel Farke is clearly a big fan of the player, as he said of him back in December: "What I like about him is that he has an old-school attitude, but he’s a perfect role model of a modern defender as well. Because he is quick and good on the ball and you can defend with him on the high line. He also has good body language and leadership and it is also a topic we have worked on a bit since the beginning of the season. He has grown more and more into this role and he leads from the backline.
