Brighton dealt double injury blow ahead of Tottenham Hotspur visit with 8 ruled out of Premier League clash

Brighton and Hove Albion have been dealt two further injury blows ahead of their clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday

Brighton and Hove Albion boss Roberto De Zerbi has confirmed Kaoru Mitoma and Simon Adingra are both facing at least four weeks on the sidelines in a double injury blow for the Seagulls ahead of Thursday's Premier League meeting with Tottenham Hotspur at the Amex Stadium.

Both players were withdrawn during Brighton's 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace last week but are set to be out until the end of January. Mitoma has suffered an ankle injury while Adingra is ruled out with a hamstring problem.

Ahead of the visit of Spurs, De Zerbi said on Wednesday: “Tomorrow we have more or less 10 injured players, maybe eight but (the other) two players can’t start the game. Mitoma is one of them. We lost Kaoru for around six weeks – four, five, six weeks. Adingra, I think he needs four, five weeks (recovery). Tomorrow, no Mitoma, no Adingra.”

Brighton's other six injured players are Joel Veltman, Tariq Lamptey, Adam Webster, Solly March, Julio Enciso and Ansu Fati while Jakub Moder is not ready to be named in the starting line-up as he continues his recovery from an ACL injury. Adam Lallana and Pervis Estupinan could both be named on the bench, but are unlikely to start.

“This season, a lot of injuries were unlucky because March, Pervis Estupinan, Enciso and Mitoma, they are not muscular injuries,” he added. “We are paying maybe for playing every week three times. I would like to play with the complete squad but Tottenham played a lot of games without seven, eight players and I never heard [Ange] Postecoglou cry. It’s football and we have to accept it.

“I think we can compete in the same way. Maybe on the bench we have not the same quality with a complete squad but we have maybe more energy with the young players.”

Tottenham are not free from injury themselves, with Cristian Romero facing around four weeks out after picking up a hamstring injury. Ivan Perisic, Rodrigo Bentancur, Micky van de Ven, James Maddison, Ryan Sessegnon, and Manor Solomon will also miss out due to injury with Yves Bissouma unavailable against his old club due to suspension.
