Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham win record compared to Jose Mourinho, Antonio Conte and others amid 'ridiculous' verdict

Ange Postecoglou is on the hotseat at Tottenham amid another cup defeat.

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou is under intense pressure with another avenue to silverware closed for his side. Spurs were beaten by Liverpool in the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg on Wednesday night, and they followed that up with an FA Cup defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday.

With their Premier League campaign already in the toilet, Spurs can now only rely on the Europa League as a possible route to Europe, and confidence of winning that competition will not be particularly high given performances so far this term.

Postecoglou is not totally to blame, especially given the mountain of injuries he has had to deal with, the likes of which have seldom been seen. And that’s something he pointed to after the Villa game, saying: “How did Liverpool go today? And they just did that for one game. Do that for two-and-a-half months. Any team. Do that for two-and-a-half months in multiple competitions.

“I don't know how else to explain it if you can't see that this team is just trying to play its hardest in the most extreme of circumstances,” Postecoglou said. They're human beings. Unless you're super human and you think no, after playing Liverpool on Thursday night they should be flying tonight. It doesn't happen. Why do you think Liverpool and others rotate 11 players? Why? There's a reason and I wish I could do the same.”

Postecoglou went on to say that he is used to winning things in his second season, and that did not go down with TalkSport pundit Alex Crook, who responded by saying: “It is a ridiculous thing to say, ‘I always win trophies in my second season.’ You put so much pressure on yourself. He is not managing Celtic anymore in what effectively is a two-horse race; he’s managing a Tottenham team who never win anything.

“So, to say, ‘I’m going to win a trophy this season,’ which is effectively what he was saying, puts so much pressure on himself.” He added: “Pochettino took Tottenham to a Champions League final and got fired. I keep coming back to that as a sliding door moment. If they stuck to Pochettino and they backed him in the transfer market, Tottenham then were on the brink of something special.

“Pochettino is a better manager than Postecoglou. Mourinho—his CV tells you he is a better manager than Postecoglou. Conte’s CV tells you he’s a better manager than Postecoglou. What Nuno is doing at Forest at this moment in time tells you that he’s a better manager than Postecoglou. So Daniel Levy, for me, has fired better managers than Postecoglou. Why should he stick with this guy?”

Postecoglou’s record compared

Spurs chief Daniel Levy will be considering Postecoglou’s future every week at this point, but regardless of injury issues, how does the Australian’s current record compare to Tottenham bosses of the past?

It is perhaps surprising at this point, but Postecoglou’s record last season means his overall balance sheet is not all that bad. His current win percentage stands at 48.75, and that puts him 10th on the list of best winning percentages as Tottenham boss. Bill Nicholson (49.04%), Harry Redknapp (49.49%), Tim Sherwood (50%) and David Pleat (50%) are all ahead of him. The all-time leaders are Frank Brettel (58.73%), Arthur Turner (55.1%), Andre Villas-Boas (55%) and Mauricio Pochettino (54.27%).

Fifth is Antonio Conte with a record of 53.25%, while John Cameron (51.93%) and Jose Mourinho (51.16%) follow.
