Ange Postecoglou sack latest: Daniel Levy 'decision', replacement candidates and what Tottenham boss has said
All the latest on Ange Postecoglou’s future as the Tottenham boss battles to keep his job.
Tottenham are in Europa League final action on Wednesday night when they face Manchester United. It’s a huge game for Spurs, who have put together a historically bad Premier League campaign, leaving manager Ange Postecoglou walking the wire.

It’s unclear whether winning the Europa League will save his job, but it’s clear Daniel Levy has a big decision to make this summer. With that in mind, we have rounded up all the latest on Postecoglou’s future.
Latest report and Europa League factor
With Tottenham in the Europa League final, there has been little news about Postecoglou over the last few weeks. The last report came from Mick Brown via Football Insider, who claimed in late April that Daniel Levy had decided to sack the current Spurs boss at the end of this season.
What isn’t clear is whether a Europa League title would change that, if indeed the decision has been made. While the Premier League campaign has been a disaster, Tottenham could win their first trophy in 17 years, and they could also secure Champions League football, which has hardly been a staple of the last couple of decades.
Should Tottenham win the final, the bottom line is that Postecoglou would have met the key goals for this season, and that has to have some impact on Levy’s decision. At the very list, it will cause further consideration.
Possible replacements
Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner is the new favourite for the Tottenham job should Postecoglou leave. Other favourites are Brentford boss Thomas Frank and Burnley boss Scott Parker. Links with Marco Silva have been ongoing, while Andoni Iraola doesn’t look like a realistic appointment at this stage.
Other possible candidates include Francesco Farioli, Mauricio Pochettino and Xavi Hernandez. In the case of old favourite Pochettino, the appointment is unlikely this summer because the USA football federation would be due a huge settlement due to a contract clause he has with USMNT.
What Postecoglou has said
Speaking ahead of the Europa League final, Postecoglou was asked whether he was worried this will be his penultimate game in charge. He replied: “Does it matter? It doesn't, because the reality of it is that the opportunity is the same for me, and more importantly, for the club. Whatever happens beyond tomorrow is kind of irrelevant, when you think about the opportunity that exists right now, and that is to provide something special for this football club, supporters and everyone who has worked so hard, not just this year, but for the last 15 years it's been since a trophy and 41 years since a European trophy."
Asked if he has spoken to his players about his future, Postecoglou added: “No, because I think, again, that would not be really helpful with what is before us right now. I’ve said to the lads from day one, nothing is guaranteed in life, nothing is guaranteed in sport. You just need to try and make sure you take every opportunity before you. That’s what I have done my whole career.
“I’ve been in this position before where the big game was the last game I managed. It’s not unusual territory for me. I have always navigated it pretty well because, for me, nothing is more important than my responsibility for this football club and its fans that tomorrow me, the players, our minds is only on one thing and that is to create something special."
