Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou keen on working with 'promising' £8.5m transfer deadline day signing

Tottenham beat off strong competition from Barcelona to secure the signature of Lucas Bergvall on transfer deadline day.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is counting the days until when he can get to work with talented Swedish midfielder Lucas Bergvall after he turned down Barcelona to sign for the Lilywhites before the winter transfer window shut.

The 18-year-old has already been capped by Sweden. Bergvall is tipped to be the next big thing in Swedish football with Dejan Kulusevski playing a role in convincing him to join the north London club. Spurs boss Postecoglou says he's had a word with him after the move was completed and is eager to have him on board as soon as possible.

He told reporters after the 2-2 draw to Everton at Goodison: "He's a very talented young man. Nice young man too, good family. He's already had a really positive start to his career and we feel like this club will be good for him and he will be good for us."

"Obviously he'll be at his club for the remainder of this season and then he'll join us in the summer and I'm looking forward to having him as part of the group."

Bergvall made 25 appearances for Djurgarden in the Swedish top flight last season and made his international debut against Estonia on 12 January. Tottenham enjoyed a good January transfer window with the arrival of Timo Werner and the highly-rated Radu Dragusin.

Premier League setback

The Lilywhites suffered a setback at Goodison in the Premier League after throwing away a lead twice to draw 2-2 with Everton. Those points dropped and Aston Villa's win means they drop out of the top four.
