Tottenham will now look to kickstart their season after beating Manchester City, breathing new life into their campaign.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has been dealt a blow, as he will be without his first-choice goalkeeper, Guglielmo Vicario, who injured his ankle during the 4-0 win against Manchester City.

The injury occurred in the first half of the game, but instead of coming off, Vicario stayed on, attempting to help his team. However, the consequences of his decision now mean an opportunity for 36-year-old Fraser Forster who has been used in the Cup competitions.

Spurs fans have been divided on the impact Forster might have, given he hasn't played a Premier League game since May 2023. There are also concerns about his ability to build from the back, a key part of Postecoglou’s style. Losing that ability could be a setback, but Forster is strong in the air and on set pieces, areas where Spurs have struggled, with Vicario's positioning and decision-making often criticised in press conferences.

Postecoglou has consistently downplayed the focus on set pieces, suggesting that defending them is a collective issue rather than the responsibility of a single player. When asked about set-piece concerns following their defeat to Arsenal, he responded:

"I know for some reason people think I don’t care about set pieces, and it’s a narrative that can go on forever. I understand that. You know they’re a threat, but for the most part, we handled them really well today. We switched off on one occasion and paid the price. You learn from that and move on."

Tottenham are back in action on Sunday when they visit Fulham. While they’ve been strong against teams higher up the table, they have struggled against sides like Fulham. It will be interesting to see how they cope with a Fulham team that is aiming to compete for a spot in Europe.
