West Ham opened the scoring against Tottenham Hotspur through a ‘great’ Mohammed Kudus goal.

Ally McCoist was left enthralled by an end-to-end first half of action at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at Saturday lunchtime as Spurs and West Ham went in for the break with the score level at 1-1.

Both of the sides had plenty of chances in an exciting London derby encounter. Ange Postecoglou is looking to turn the page after losing a 2-0 lead to Brighton before the international break while Julen Lopetegui can smell the first signs of consistency from his Hammers side with the chance to go three unbeaten in the league.

West Ham took the lead after just 18 minutes through the dynamic Mohammed Kudus. Reacting to that goal while commentating on TNT Sports, Scotland football legend Ally McCoist said: "Interesting to see where Pedro Porro is. Kudus comes in again. We saw him force a great save from Vicario. Again, it's lovely skill, takes it on his chest, he's a little bit lucky when the ball comes back to him.

“I'm looking at Porro. Yep, I've got to be fair, to be brutally honest it's Brennan Johnson who should tuck in. Porro has to go to come in to the nearest man. Kudus comes in and hits it into the ground, takes a bit of a deflection, Porro has no chance it goes by him. I was slightly critical. It shows the importance of a midfielder attacking the area, that's exactly was Tomas Soucek did. That forces Porro to pick up that man and leave Kudus at the back post, who scores a great goal."

There was more criticism put on the Tottenham Hotspur defence at half time with Glen Hoddle analysing the goal. The former England manager labelled it a “poor, poor goal” for Spurs to concede, noting that Johnson was “out of position and can’t get back” with Destiny Udogie also failing to get goalside against Jarrod Bowen in the run-up.

Postecoglou’s side didn’t let the setback impact their play and found a leveller less than 20 minutes later. Dejan Kulusevski saw a shot creep over the line, bagging his second goal of the season.
