West Brom complete Premier League transfer coup ahead of QPR season opener

West Brom have today confirmed the loan signing of Aston Villa forward Lewis Dobbin, just days before travelling to Loftus Road to kick off the Championship season against QPR on Saturday afternoon.
West Brom finished fifth in the second tier last season, losing the following play-off semi-final to Southampton, with 19 points separating the Midlands outfit and QPR. The two sides played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at Loftus Road in March with the R's having been defeated 2-0 at the Hawthorns last October.

The Villains star only arrived in the Midlands from Everton this summer but the 21-year-old will gain experience elsewhere before impacting Unai Emery's first team.
Speaking about the signing ahead of facing QPR, Corberán said: “Lewis is a young, talented player who has come in to strengthen our team in attack. He can play on both the left and right sides as a winger, and last year he played minutes in the Premier League.
“He has also experienced a loan before, which is important, when he was at Derby in League One a few seasons ago. We’re very pleased to have him here for the season.”
Dobbin scored his first Premier League goal for Everton against Chelsea last season. The player has not yet faced QPR in his career with Derby County in the third tier during his loan spell during the 2022/23 campaign.

News of Dobbin's arrival comes after a dramatic week on the transfer front for QPR's first Championship opponents. The club was put under an EFL-imposed business plan, which limits their activity this summer amid worries they could breach financial rules.
The Baggies have only paid a transfer fee for one player so far this window, £500,000 for defender Torbjorn Heggem from Sweden. Devante Cole, Joe Goldsmith, Gianluca Frabotta and Ousmane Diakate have all arrived for free with Paddy McNair joining on loan. Nine players have left the club this summer in a bid to reduce the wage bill.
