QPR finally look to have landed one of their prime summer transfer targets after weeks of talks.

QPR are finally said to have reached an agreement to sign long-term summer target Jonathan Varane. Negotiations have been going on for weeks between the Hoops and Real Sporting de Gijon, with the two clubs struggling to see eye-to-eye over the fee involved in the deal.

The 22-year-old midfielder was a key player for Sporting last season after breaking into the first team, making 39 league appearances after previously representing the B team following his move from French club Lens. But Varane is now headed for Loftus Road after the two clubs came to an agreement on terms.

As reported by La Nueva España, who are based in Asturias, the two clubs have agreed a fee worth 1.5million euros (£1.27m) after working on negotiations throughout Friday. The report says the agreement is now ‘closed’ and that the operation is only missing signatures and the usual medical checks. It’s reported that the £1.27million fee does include variables.

The deal is a big boost for the Hoops, especially with their Championship opener against West Brom now just one week away. Varane will hope to have his deal all wrapped up by then, but he will not get a chance to play with his new teammates before that, with the Hoops’ final pre-season friendly taking place on Saturday when they face Brighton.

The half-brother of Manchester United star Raphael Varane will become QPR’s 10th summer signing, with Marti Cifuentes taking the opportunity to put his own stamp on the squad this summer. Daniel Bennie, Rocco Friel, Jack McDowell, Kieran Morgan, Paul Nardi, Rohan Vaughan, Liam Morrison, Havertton Santos and Zan Celar have all been snapped up, with only two of those being paid-for deals. The rest were free transfers. The Hoops will be hoping to at least compete for a top half finish this term after a difficult season of last.
