QPR legend Lee Cook has sent Preston North End and Leeds United a strong warning ahead of their visits to Loftus Road over the next seven days.

The Rs are still embroiled in a relegation battle and sit 19th in the table, just three points above the drop zone. Marti Cifuentes is in need of points against Preston on Saturday and when Leeds United come calling to London next Friday.

Speaking to his former club, Cook backed QPR to make it tough for those top-half sides at home. The 41-year-old enjoyed a total of four spells at QPR, two permanent and two on loan, racking up 196 appearances in that time.

Speaking on the challenge that awaits Preston and Leeds, Cook said: "Any player that I've played against, when I've bumped into them they've always said how difficult it was coming here because of the tightness of the pitch and the fans being on top of you.

"When it's loud, it's a difficult place to come. Here at home has always been a tough place for opposition to come to, they [the fans] play their part for sure."

QPR have been rejuvenated since Marti Cifuentes took over last October and looked to have all-but secured Championship survival with two huge back-to-back wins over Birmingham City and Swansea City around Easter. However, defeats to Sheffield Wednesday and Hull City have followed, which has left the side still fighting.

Despite the club's predicament, there is still a feeling of positivity around Cifuentes, who has won supporters over since his arrival. Cook added his voice to those admiring the Catalan head coach.

He said: "When he first came in, I didn't really know who he was. A lot of people didn't. He surprised us all in that sense.

"He's shown that he's a decent coach and likes to play football. That's always been the QPR way, he's put being a decent footballing team back into our badge. I've been very impressed.

"Next season we'll be able to see where we will be with him once he's put his stamp in it. You've got to applaud him for what he has done."
