QPR and Millwall rivals Hull City have sacked head coach Liam Rosenior after missing out on a play-off spot this season, according to Sky Sports.

The Tigers finished sixth in the table this season, three points off of Norwich City and the play-offs in sixth place. Both Rosenior's side and the Canaries won just one of their last four matches as they scrambled for a place in the top six.

The 39-year-old took up the post at the MKM Stadium in November 2022 and had recently signed a new three-year contract in December 2023. Rosenior was shortlisted for the Championship Manager of the Season award this year having taken Hull City from one point above the relegation zone on his appointment to promotion contenders.

The Yorkshire club were defeated on their travels to Plymouth Argyle on the final day of the season last weekend and after the match, Rosenior shared his disappointment at ending the season that way.

He said: "The energy and intensity they put into the game, they deserved their win overall.

"Even though results didn't go our way, we wanted to finish on a really positive note because that would have summed up the season. It has been a positive season but we couldn't quite get over the line today.

"Part of me not quite expected it, but I knew we would be a team that would have to learn on the job. Sometimes you can watch us play and we make so many young decisions but we are so fearless in the way we play. "It is our biggest strength but sometimes our biggest weakness."

QPR faced Hull City at the MKM Stadium last month, losing 3-0 before going on to win their final three league fixtures of the campaign. The Rs beat the Tigers 2-0 at Loftus Road in December thanks to Chris Willock and Ilias Chair goals.

For Millwall, the Lions suffered defeat at the MKM in February but did pick up a point against Hull City at The Den in October when the sides drew 2-2.

Former St Mirren and Dundee boss Alex Rae is an early frontrunner for the role and will be a familiar name to Millwall supporters having spent six years at the club. He also racked up over 100 appearances for Sunderland and Wolves. Ex Sheffield United and Leeds United manager Paul Heckingbottom has also been linked with the role.
