QPR were credited interest in Plymouth Argyle boss Miron Muslic last week but face competition from a Championship rival.

Hull City are reportedly ‘keen’ to make Plymouth Argyle head coach Miron Muslic their new manager, which could be a blow for QPR as the future of Marti Cifuentes remains unknown at Loftus Road.

The Catalan head coach was put on ‘gardening leave’ before the final game of the season against Sunderland. That decision came amid links to the West Brom job and a reported breakdown in relationship with chief executive Christian Nourry.

Cifuentes could still technically return to his post but the position at Loftus Road does seem untenable. Several names have been touted to take over in west London with Muslic emerging as a frontrunner last week.

Hull City make Miron Muslic top target

EFL Analysis had claimed that Muslic was a name being talked about at Loftus Road as the potential ‘perfect’ candidate. However, it now appears that QPR will face fierce competition from Hull City.

Reporter Darren Witcoop took to social media platform X to share news of Hull City interest in the 42-year-old. Witcoop wrote: “Hull are keen to appoint Plymouth boss Miron Muslic with Emre Belozoglu appearing to be out of the running. Former Cardiff manager Erol Bulut also believed to have been sounded out but Muslic favoured.”

Muslic has not left Plymouth Argyle but the Pilgrims ended the Championship season in 23rd and were relegated to League One. It was a tough season for the side after a difficult start under Wayne Rooney but did enjoy somewhat of a resurgence under Muslic.

Plymouth Argyle beat Liverpool in the FA Cup in February and won five of their final 10 Championship fixtures, having secured just one victory in Rooney’s final 14 games. Muslic signed a three-and-a-half-year deal with the club in January but hinted at a potential departure at the end of the campaign, wanting ‘answers’ on the future of key players.

Muslic ‘empty’ as QPR linked with interest in Plymouth Argyle manager

He told BBC Sport: "I'm empty - we are relegated for seven or eight days, believe me I'm empty. I don't have the power right now to think about a potential future because that takes a lot of focus, a lot of concentration and a lot of energy.

"I don't have this energy right now, I need to go back to my family to see them, to recharge, to breathe and we have enough time to think about the future."

Hull City are linked with Muslic having sacked Ruben Selles last week. The former Reading man had only been appointed in December and is the third managerial departure from the MKM Stadium in 12 months. Hull City finished the season in 21st, narrowly avoiding the drop.

A Tigers statement read: “Hull City can confirm we have parted company with head coach Rubén Sellés with immediate effect. The 41-year-old was appointed in December and guided the Tigers to Sky Bet Championship survival on goal difference on the final day of the 2024/25 season.

“Assistant head coach James Oliver-Pearce and first-team coach Tobias Loveland have also left the club. Following a thorough review of football operations after a challenging campaign, the club feels a change in leadership is necessary to move the team forward in line with our ambitions. We would like to thank Rubén, James and Tobias for their hard work and dedication during their time at the MKM Stadium and wish them well for their future careers.”
