QPR may have given themselves a huge survival boost by beating Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United to the loan signing of Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden.

The Rs had been linked with the Magpies man this month but appeared to have fallen out of contention as other sides were named as other interested parties. However, as Deadline Day reaches its end, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reports that it is QPR who have completed the deal.

"Isaac Hayden to QPR, deal done and sealed — loan completed today," Romano tweeted.

The 28-year-old has Championship experience at Newcastle United and Norwich City and is an experienced addition to the side after Andre Dozzell was allowed to join Birmingham City earlier this month. Hayden was recalled from his loan spell at Standard Liege in January after 11 appearances for the Belgian Pro League outfit and was reportedly a 'top target' for QPR last summer.

A 32-word club statement by Liege at the time read: "The English club have activated the recall clause in Isaac Hayden's loan contract. This means he will return to Newcastle. Standard de Liege wishes Isaac the best in his further professional career."

It came just days after Liege CEO Pierre Locht labelled Hayden's short spell as inconsistent' despite praising his abilities as 'a true number six, capable of settling the game'.

Following Hayden's return from Standard Liege, Howe told The Gazette that: "Isaac will go back on loan, possibly somewhere else. I'm slightly unsure [if there is a deal lined up]." Howe added earlier this week that he was 'not sure' what Hayden's situation was heading into deadline day. But now the former Arsenal man is set to depart on loan once again.

QPR had been linked with moves for Sporting Gijon midfielder Jonathan Varane and Luton Town player Allan Campbell today.
