Who are the most valuable players whose contracts will expire in 2024?

The name that most immediately sticks out is, of course, Kylian Mbappe. He has been in a contract stalemate with PSG for years now, with neither party willing to back down. PSG are insistent on getting the French international to sign a new deal, but he has yet to give a clear indication on where he feels his future lies.

Mbappe is arguably the best footballer in the world at the moment. Should his contract expire, he would become a free agent - whoever manages to snap him up could end up with the best free transfer in football history.

Just below Mbappe in the list is Nico Williams, who currently plays for Athletic Bilbao in La Liga. However, he could soon be off the list, with reports circulating that he is on the cusp of agreeing a new deal with the club [via Mundo Deportivo].

Juventus’ Adrien Rabiot is up next - he recently signed a contract extension with the Old Lady, but it will only keep him at the club until the summer of 2024. As things stand, it is unclear whether Juventus will extent his contract once more this season.

Tomas Soucek, who plays for West Ham United, will also see his current deal expire in 2024. The Czech international is currently in the prime of his career at 28 years of age - it would be surprising to see the Hammers let him go without a fight. Moreover, he has also been in fine form this season for David Moyes’ men. So far, Soucek has scored four goals and has racked up a solitary assist in all competitions in 2023/24.

Piotr Zielinksi, who plays for Serie A champions Napoli and the Polish national team, is out of contract in 2024. Like Rabiot, he also had his deal extended until the end of this season, but it is not clear as to whether he will stay at the club beyond this point. Real Betis’ Guido Rodriguez could depart his current club in the summer. While the two parties have held talks, he has yet to put pen to paper - and Barcelona are thought to be interested in signing him [via SPORT].

One of the younger names on the list, Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana, is also set to become a free agent in 2024. Monaco have a clause in his contract that will allow them to extend his current deal until 2025, but they have not exercised it as of yet. Aaron Wan-Bissaka, currently at Manchester United, will see his current deal expire in the summer. He has seen a greater deal of playing time under Erik ten Hag - additionally, like Fofana, there is also a one-year extension clause in his deal.

Finally, we’ll take a look at another West Ham player - Pablo Fornals. A classy midfielder who brings creativity to the Hammers’ midfield, he nevertheless seems set to depart the London Stadium in the summer. There has been little discussion regarding a new deal for him, but there is still plenty of time.
