Sunderland vs Millwall injury news as 17 ruled out and 3 doubts

A look at the latest injury news surrounding Millwall and Sunderland as they prepare to face off.

Millwall are closing in on their return to action, facing Sunderland on Saturday as they look to boost their playoff hopes. The Lions are currently six points off the top six, but they now enter a very tricky stretch of the season that will likely make or break their playoff hopes.

Sunderland look certain to finish in the playoffs, currently fourth, but they are struggling with injuries as things stand, and their manager Regis Le Bris joked this week that they might have to play with 10 men. Here we round up the updated injury news surrounding both teams after the pre-match press conferences.

Enzo Le Fee - Out

Le Fee won’t quite make it back here. Le Bris has said: “The two next ones should be... We'll have Enzo and Leo (Hjelde) next week.”

Dennis Cirkin - Out

Cirkin will miss out, with Le Bris saying: “Yeah, probably two or three weeks more. The season was like that, with many injuries and opportunities for other players. So, to manage a situation like that.”

Leo Hjelde - Out

Le Bris has said: “He shouldn't be available for Saturday. Next week.”

Dan Ballard - Out

Ballard will remain out for this one, likely to return some time in April. Le Bris has said he is still a few weeks away.

Salis Abdul Samed - Out

Le Bris has said: “Two or three weeks.”

Ahmed Abdullahi - Out

Abdullahi is still building up fitness, but Le Bris is not currently considering him for selection. He said recently: "With Ahmed, he is still struggling with his previous injury so it is not yet fully solved. It is not a bad issue at this stage but he is not available.”

Jayden Danns - Out

Danns has had a lower back issue since arriving on loan from Liverpool, and it’s not clear when he will return. Le Bris said this week: “We're not at this point right now, but the season is running, so it would be difficult. We don't know exactly. We managed different problems and this is one more. Probably because now we have Eli and Wilson available, it's not a big problem and we have other problems and other parts in the squad but here it wasn't too complicated.”

Aji Alese - Out

Alese is out for the season after breaking his leg back in January.

Niall Huggins - Out

Huggins remains out, still recovering from a big knee surgery.

Ian Poveda - Out

Poveda has struggled with injuries this season, and there is no timeline on his return from his latest setback.

Trai Hume - Doubt

Hume was sent home early from Northern Ireland duty, but he could play here. Le Bris has said: “Yes, probably. He managed this pain for a long time.”

Trey Ogunsuyi - Out

Le Bris has confirmed that Ogunsuyi remains absent.

George Honeyman - Doubt

Honeyman will likely miss out with a groin issue, but Neil didn’t rule him out completely. He said: “George Honeyman is making decent progress. I’m not sure he will make the weekend.”

Femi Azeez - Out

Like Honeyman, it would be a big surprise if Azeez was available here. He picked up a hamstring issue last time out, and they tend to take a few weeks as a minimum.

Danny McNamara - Out

McNamara is out after requiring surgery on the serious knee injury he picked up last month. He will be out for the season.

Ryan Leonard - Doubt

Leonard has been out since last month with a calf issue and Neil said it didn’t look good at the time. There hasn’t been an update since.

Calum Scanlon - Out

Scanlon will be out for much of the season, and likely all of it. Neil said at the time: “Unfortunately Calum's got a really bad hamstring injury. He required surgery, which he already had and I believe everything went successfully, but that will rule him out for basically sixteen weeks, which takes him to the end of the season. So he'll go back to Liverpool. We're naturally upset for him."

Macauley Langstaff - Out

This one will come too soon for Longstaff, with Neil explaining: “Macca is back on the grass, so he is starting to do a bit more. I’m hoping he will get a week under his belt.”

Camiel Neghli - Out

Neghli is out for a few more weeks, with Neil confirming this week: “Camiel [Neghli] is still a little bit away, he isn’t back with us yet. Femi [Azeez] is not with us. He is still with the physios.”

Liam Roberts - Out (Suspended)

The goalkeeper is suspended due to the red card he picked up against Palace.
