Millwall are set to be without striker Kevin Nisbet for the foreseeable future after the Scotsman picked up a 'serious' injury that kept him out of the matchday squad for the defeat at Hull City on Saturday.

The 26-year-old has five Championship goals for Millwall so far this term, having joined the club from Scottish Premiership outfit Hibernian last summer. Nisbet had plundered 12 goals for Hibs in the second half of last season having missed the opening 16 league fixtures with an ACL tear.

The Scotsman had found form recently with three goals in four games at the start of December but has now been hit with another major injury. Millwall boss Joe Edwards said: “He’s got a hamstring issue. It’s pretty serious. He won’t be here for a good number of weeks and we’re still waiting for a specialist’s opinion to see exactly what even the treatment process will be. Sometimes you need surgery on hamstrings, sometimes you don’t.

“We’re waiting to get that news. But it’s definitely a significant one and he won’t be back anytime soon.”

The setback comes at a poor time for Millwall with the side winless in four league outings, losing three of those fixtures. The Lions sit in 16th place but are just five points ahead of the drop zone and a rejuvenated QPR in 22nd ahead of the run-in.

The club will also have to make do without the injured Ryan Longman, although the Hull loanee should return quicker than Nisbett. Edwards said: “His was similar to Aidomo’s. Some damage done but not as bad as it could have been. So probably from when he did it (nine days ago), three or four weeks until he will be back ready to play.”

Millwall played Michael Obafemi up front against Hull City, with the Burnley man having arrived on loan from the Premier League club towards the end of the January window. Tom Bradshaw replaced the new arrival in the second half.

Millwall face a series of tricky Championship fixtures over the next few weeks, starting with a trip to play off-chasing Coventry City before welcoming automatic promotion candidates Ipswich Town to The Den. There's then an important meeting with relegation-threatened Sheffield Wednesday before travelling to second-placed Southampton, with Nisbet looking likely to be absent throughout February.
