Sheffield United boss makes 'direct' Millwall claim as new signing confirmed before clash

Sheffield United boss Ruben Selles has been speaking ahead of his side’s clash with Millwall.

Sheffield United boss Ruben Selles has been speaking ahead of his side’s clash with Millwall on Saturday. It has been a torrid start to the season for the Blades, who have lost each of their first two games, with Selles getting off to a nightmare start.

Chris Wilder led Sheffield United last season, and they finished just outside the top two, ultimately losing in the play-off final, and while there has been a change of manager, expectations are still high at Bramall Lane this season.

The start to the reasons has not reflected those ambitions, and Selles knows the pressure is on as his side prepare to welcome Millwall to South Yorkshire this weekend.

He said in his pre-match press conference: “We know when you work and you play for Sheffield United, you know that you need to win every match. Then if not, and especially if it's consecutive, then you're going to be under massive pressure.

“I think that that's part of it. And we play and we live with that. So it's part of it. We try to think positive and try to think that we go for the victory and we are going to be trying to be at our best to get the three points

"Millwall, especially under Alex (Neil) have been really competitive, they can play different formations and pick their time to apply pressure. They sometimes play from the back but can also be direct in their approach, with a good structure, especially on offensive set plays."

Millwall are off to a mixed start, picking up a big away win over Norwich City but then suffering a heavy defeat to Middlesbrough at home, and Neil will want a much better performance this weekend.

Blades confirm new signing

Ahead of the Millwall game, Sheffield United have confirmed the loan signing of Ben Godfrey from Atalanta. The former Norwich City promotion winner had a strong spell at Everton but went on to join Atalanta, but things have not gone well in Serie A.

Godfrey made just one league appearance at Atalanta, while he only made three league appearances during a loan spell with Ipswich Town in the second half of last season. The centre-back now returns to Yorkshire, where he is from, to aid Sheffield United’s proposed promotion push.

Speaking to the Blades website upon arrival, the defender said: “I'm a Yorkshire lad so brilliant to be back home and I'm looking forward to getting started. It was a good experience moving out to Italy. There were things I learnt about football, lifestyle and language but there's nothing like being in your home country and especially for the family being close to home, so really looking forward to it.

"The manager has some good ideas, and I am looking forward to learning under him and I think there will be positives through the season that we can really look forward to. I've been training hard at Atalanta, so it's been good to get that into the legs, plenty of minutes and plenty of tough training sessions as well, so I am feeling ready to go."
